Palm V Aluminum Hardcase
Site Review|May 25, 2001|10AM EST -

Have you ever screamed in horror when you drop your PDA? How about taking it out of your briefcase, only to find the PDA case had opened up and was bouncing around with your pens? If you own a Palm V, you need a hardcase. 3Com has them, but if you want to turn heads, you'll want the Rhino skin. Read up on it .

Tribute to my true beginnings...

Yeah, that has got to be the worst headline I've come up with, but whatever. I'm a big Quake 3 player (never said I was any good though), and like most people, newsgroups have always been a good source of info on whatever it is that you like, be it midget pr0n or computers. Let's take a into my time at alt.games.quake3.

Some interesting news

Stuff from around the web. Cool about ripping crap fans off various heatsinks, and slapping Delta fans on instead. A not so cool involves a user installing Windows XP Beta on his PC. I tell ya, Microsoft + Beta = Format and Reinstall. If your PDA is feeling a little sluggish, maybe it's time to it. AMD continues it's hot streak with more wins. Finally, if high fidelity is your thing, check out Klipsch's offering. 399$? Ouch.

Need a silent HSF? Make a heatpipe. Need a new HSF that'll barely cool your CPU to acceptable levels? I present the . It's essentially the same HSF as the retail one, and we all know how bad they are. Yeah, maybe I'm being rough, but if I need a mission critical HSF, I'd stay far away from this one.

Easy Windows 2000 setup guide
Site Article|May 20, 2001|2AM EST -

I wrote up a late night article about how to install Windows 2000. really short, and covers just the basics. I'll expand my Windows 2000 section of the website to include tweaks, error message troubleshooting, and other stuff in the near future.

Quick note about the review process
Site Message|May 18, 2001|10AM EST -

I've been chatting with some friends lately, and it was mentioned that almost all site reviews seem to score highly. Yes folks, most reviews score very well. So far, all the products have been purchased by yours truly or by my contributing writers. I usually do a lot of research, prior to purchasing, so yeah, 99% of the time, I'm getting what I expect and I know beforehand the product will rock. Trust me, no manufacturer is padding my pockets. I wish it were true..., so I can move forward in my plans of world domination. =)

Anyhow, I got some products dying to be reviewed that I already know sucks ass. I'll be posting these in the near future, leaving you to think, "WTF was he thinking when he got that?"

Labtec speakers?
Site Review|May 18, 2001|10AM EST -

I remember my first "multimedia" speakers were Labtec. Back in the heydays of 1990, anything was better than the craptacular PC speaker. Labtec has come out with a lot of crap since then, but there last few speaker kits have been surprising. whipped up a of their latest release...

"Incidentally, yes you did read that correctly, I did say Labtec. I was intrigued by a new set of speakers from a company that we all know has a record of producing lass than par speakers for personal or PC use. If Labtec continues to produce more systems like the Pulse-424 they are quickly going to regain the respect of those who are looking for a solid speaker system with an outstanding price."

The great Microsoft OS debate
Site News|May 16, 2001|9AM EST -

I get a lot of questions about Windows 98/ME and Windows 2000. I pretty much say "What do you do on your computer?", and in most cases, it's either work (bah!) or gaming. The latter is a trickier topic, but I'm gonna it anyhow.

I'm still working on my "Viper Box" article, and I'm thinking that by the time it's done, there will be machines 500mhz faster. Doh! Too late! Oh well, I'll put the article up this week I hope. I'll also be posting a review, by , on some nifty (and cheap, but in good way) speakers by Labtec. This will also be Bladez's debut as a contributing writer. =)

AMD 0wNz j00!!
Site News|May 11, 2001|9AM EST -

It's FINISHED!!!! I think after slapping everything together, and running some stress tests, my PC is officially finished! w00t!! Um, anyways, I guess I'll start my "Viper Box" article soon. Maybe if I'm lucky, it'll be up next week. What are the final specs? Ha! You gotta wait. But I'll let you in on something. It's an AMD box. then again, I guess my title gave that away.

I actually was lucky enough to snag myself an AMD Thunderbird 1.2, 266FSB chip, AVIA model. What's that? Well, there are two fabs of Thunderbirds out there that are renowned in the overclocking community. The previously mentioned AVIA and the AXIA. Which is more overclockable? Check out article at Athlon OC. It also happens that my CPU is FACTORY UNLOCKED!! For kicks, I did my first overclock to 1.33Ghz, and was successful. I see great things coming....

Speaking of which, thinks are looking good for AMD. Their new CPU, the Athlon 4 (That has got to be one of the worst names I've ever heard. Where was number 1, 2 and 3?) is almost ready, and it now supports SSE somewhat. Weird, but you can read it . What I'm anxious about is the promise of cooler running CPUs. That may mean we can all ditch our Delta 7000rpm fans from out heatsinks. =)

Also, AMD seems ready to launch their mobile Athlon CPUs very soon, well before the Pentium 4 mobile chips are due. I'd guess-ta-mate that AMD has a 6 month window to grab some mobile market share.

If I were an Intel exec right now, I'd be rich. But I'd also be a little nervous at AMD's surge the past 18 months. They don't look like they're slowing down either.

Crucial DDR ram is CHEAP!!
Site News|May 11, 2001|9AM EST -

I should have grabbed some for my "Viper Haus of Hurt" PC. =(

256MB of DDR ram is 90$ US! Damn, that is cheap. Free shipping also. Now, why don't you all click the Crucial links above, so we can all win. =)

It's been a rough ride, but my new gaming box is just about done. I'm waiting for a buddy to lend me a digital camera for the weekend to take some pics, but trust me, the box will be a kick-ass. I haven't thought about a name yet. Maybe I'll call it the "Box that Vipe Built".

....maybe not.
