I just installed Vista and it seems to run ok. Some of my Window animations do seem to drag though and from what I hear, the new interface is direct x 10 driven. Is this true? And if so, would upgrading from my 7600GT to maybe an 8800GTS improve my Windows performance? Rest of my system is an X2 4400+, 1GB of ram and a Asus A8N32-SLI.

The Aero GUI should only be DirectX 9, and it only requires Pixel Shader 2.0 (I believe), which is a DX 9 thing. I wouldn't get a new gpu just so windows looks better though, it should look and run fine with your current card.

you might want to add another gig of ram, other then that, your setup is fine...

Right now I have two sticks of Samsung DDR400 512MB. If I were to get 2 1GB sticks, would my system run faster with 3GB?

I would say that pairing the 1GB would probably be the faster solution, but you could test 2x1gb and 2x1gb+2x512mb and report back :)
