just got a used x850 xt 256mg and I am finding older games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Half life 1&2 are running sluggish. I ran 3dmark 06 and the tests were running at less than 10 fps.

System specs:
CPU: Pentium D 805 running at 55C
Motherboard: ASUS P5B-MX
xpPro SP2 & all updates installed
1 gig DD2 ram
250gig samsung SATA II HDD
Using latest Drivers for vid card.

I stress tested the system with the everest benchmarking program for 6 hrs and the cpu and ram passed with no problems.

Guess the first question should be what resolution are you playing at?

an X850 should pwn for RTCW (opengl) and HL1 (directx), HL2 it will struggle some. Are you sure the card is not flawed? What was your 3dmark score? and yes, we need your resolution (although, unless its higher then 1680x1050 you should be fine.

Without knowing your resolution or actual FPS, it's tough to say, but the 10fps in 3dmark sounds right if it's 1600x1200.
