For me, the first video card that wow'd me was the GeForce DDR. I had a Voodoo 2 just before, and while playing Quake 3, the colours and speed were unreal at the time with the GeForce. I almost sprung for the SDR, but I am glad I waited.

Well the voodoo 2 did for me. Before then I was running a 4m Matrox Mystique. I guess technically after the voodoo 2 I was still running it (as the voodoo 2 was an add on card.) Basically it allowed me to play Quake 2 with the big boys.

I just remember saying wow when I played Quake 2 the first with a TNT2 Ultra card instead of this i740 that came with my system.

GeForce 2 GTS. I skipped over the first GeForce card and went from a TNT2 to the Geforce 2GTS with 32MB of Ram. That got my Quake III game going :)

Man the things this card could do; I looked at it, read about it, badly wanted it, got it a week before my birthday (had a school project due and needed to edit some video clips)

All in all its still not a bad card, I've got it in the family rig and it can handle all the games they throw at it.

I forget the full name, but it was a Diamond Multimedia Stealth. I think it was a Rendition V-1000 or something. Anyhow it came out the same time as the Voodoo 1 and it was pretty revolutionary at the time. Anyways, first game I played was Quake 2 on it and I was damn impressed.

Easily the Voodoo 2 for me. I never got a chance to SLI them, but that was $400 well spent at the time. Quake 3 changed dramatically for me with that video card.

I went from an STB 4mb to a VooDoo Banshee 16mb card, Quake 2 actually played in more then 3 colors :) Granted it was a P-II 233 at the core so...

Radeon X800 is what really opened my eyes. It was also my first performance video card.

Quake 2 HAD more than 3 colours (brown, green and brown)? :FU g0m0z:

I went from an ATI Rage to a TNT and that blew me away. A whopping 16MB if I recall. Crazyness. GeForce still #1 in my "impressed" list though.

Not the 7900GTX, but when I picked up a second 7900GTX and plugged them into my Intel 590 SLI board. Little did I know that would be blown away the following week, but this was a big boost for me since the games I played supported SLI. Still using this setup to this day.
