are they "real" graphics cards? or are they shared memory graphics cards?

If you got a mobo with it, I'd replace that right away if you do anything more than surf the net.

Actually, from benchmarking, especially on laptops, the x3100s seem to be a pretty even match for last gen, low-end cards (I.E. Geforce 7300).

While they don't hold a candle to dedicated cards, if all you do is surf the net, run vista, and play a few old 3-d games, then they should function fine. I'm really hoping they handle Rome Total War pretty well, as that's one of the main games I play nowadays.
