Just wondering if such a thing exists. Basically, my TV only has DVI (one at that), component, s-vid and composite. I am eyeing a DVD player with HDMI out and was wondering if there is a thing where I can run the HDMI cable out from the DVD, and into this dongle, and run the wires out to the TV (in this case, s-vid and l/r composite.

I'm not entirely sure I understand. Is HDMI the only interface on the DVD player? If so, why would you not want to adapt HDMI to DVI and L/R Phono. Is the DVI in use? And if so why not look at a DVD player with S/Vid? Just curious as to the reasoning, not judging or anything :)

As for adapters, tbh, I'm not sure. Seem to be a few adapters that go the other way, at least for the video side of things (DVI to HDMI), but not seen any that convert the other way. DVI/HDMI are digital interfaces and electrically they are the same which is why there are so many HDMI to DVI adapters (many graphic cards add adapters these days instead of a dedicated HDMI port). You would want a converter that would also take the digital signal and convert it to analogue.

Ok, let's clarify. My TV is a bit older, so HDMI.

I am looking into getting some HDMI devices. DVD, perhaps a burner (if not a DVD burner, with HDMI upconverter), possibly a HD or Bluray down the line, and a video card with HDMI out in the future. Newer consoles are also going HDMI. Basically, looking for some way to hook all of these into the DVI of the TV, rather than using analog inputs. I know I can get a HDMI to DVI adapter, but that only handles one connection.

A HDMI to DVI adapter will only cover one video feed, I'm not sure what you would do for audio. There might be a device that outputs it to optical.

To connect more devices you'll need a HDMI switch

I took a quick look on Google,
Here is a switch that will work for you as long as your devices also support Optical or Coaxial audio output.
HDMI Switch with Optical Toslink Routing (http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%204port_toslink.htm)

This switch would be better if you can find a way to extract the audio 5port HDMI Switch (http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%205port.htm)
