I have a brand new Dell 20" widescreen. It has both RGB and DVI. I know everyone says use DVI, but I honestly can't tell between the two. Both appear to support the max resolution so is there any advantage to using one over the other. Video card is an ATI X1950 Pro.

If you can't tell the difference between the two, then probably not. That said, the monitor has to adjust the image position while under differing resolutions with RGB, something I've never seen mine fail at, but under DVI the picture is always perfectly aligned and sized from the get go.

There are many different reasons to use DVi over VGA.

DVi is pixel perfect, you will never need to adjust the vertical or horizontal axis with DVi.
DVi is what you see is what you get. Your computer and its video card translate the data digitally. Therefore there are no screen adjustments such as color, contrast, etc. All of these functions can then be handled by color calibration software which saves a step.

VGA is subject to noise and interference such as electro-magnetic interference. DVi doesn't have this issue. As such it doesn't suffer from clarity issues if other local devices are too close.
Lastly using DVi makes it so there is no analog signal conversion which can be lossy.
With a DVi signal path is
Computer (DVi Digital) => Monitor (also Digital)
With VGA it would be:
Computer (Digital) => Analog conversion to VGA => Monitor => Analog conversion back to Digital.

If there is ever an option, it always makes the most amount of sense to go for DVi.

I say if you have DVI on your video card, just go for it. Even if you can't tell the difference, I'm sure there are videos or apps that will expose it. Unknownsoldier's response is also correct.
