Wow, my ISP's spam filter actually works!

This surprised me quite a bit. My ISP installed a server side spam filter, and to my great surprise, it actually works. I'm able to go in and see if it's stopping good mail, but so far, it has no false positives, and only let 2 penis enlargment messages through. So it only missed 2 out of the 30 some odd messages it stopped today.

This comming from the ISP that can't keep the service running for more than 2 days at a time without it having to go down. And my ISP is the Ayersville Telephone Company DSL service, so they're a bunch of old people that really haven't a clue what they heck they're doing, for anyone that was wondering.

So, in otherwords, the emails that matter.

Actually, I'm impressed you ISP took the initiative. I wish more would do so... it is in their best interest, as spam eats their bandwidth.

My ISP has been Brightmail filtering for the past 3 months although thats all changed since they teamed up with Yahoo! who now apparently provide the content, firewall, pop-up blocking, spam filtering (complete with fischer price version of IE .... one step from AOL :( ) etc. It's good that ISP's are making an effort these days but personally there is always this little voice in the back of my mind asking me if I trust them to do it properly. Would rather do it myself I think.

yea, I was ready to hit the opt out button but it does actually work. I just can't seem to figure out how to get the emails out of the spam filter and into my inbox. I'm writing my own bayseian (I think that's how it's spelled) spam filter software for my other email accounts, but I can't get the SPAM out of that account to use for the filter

I want to setup a spam filter for months, but the admin of our server has limited Linux experience. I would do it, but I don't have admin privs.

If you use outlook theres a pretty good program put out by cloudmark.com its basicly a plug in for outlook. It uses their pam list to mark messages as spam, and if something does get thru that isnt on their list you just click block and add it to their spam list, works the same way for stuff that gets marked as spam but isnt, just click unblock. They are working on an OE version, there is a charge for the program but there is a 30 day trial, i used it and actually ended up paying for it.
