Hi there,

i have an 845PE Max2 Motherboard with an Intel P4 2.4B cpu.
I connected every wire to the correct location on the MB (according to the manual), insterted 1x 256 DDR RAM.

The power supply is P4 compatible (with 2 power suppliers to cpu).

Then i tried to boot, but after 3 seconds it just went down again, and after 2 secs it booted again, then went down etc..

What seems to be the problem here? Thanks for your support..

Ron

Something that is not uncommon on a new motherboard install is some kind of short on the back of the motherboard to the case. The behavior you are talking about sounds like some kind of electrical fault, so I think I would start there and work forward. Usually it is one of the brass screw mounts in a place where it is not needed that gets missed, but it can be something just a little out of place and touching the wrong metal bit on the back of the board to the case.

The easy test is to run the board outside of the case and see what happens. If you can get it to post sitting on a table, look at the case and figure out what is touching where it shouldn't be.

The symptoms you describe really sound like some kind of electical short. Its either the case or some part you have in the board. Start breaking it down, hook up just the basics and then add stuff. Once you get the thing POSTing, go one step at a time until its all working, or you find the showstopper.

I'm not familiar with that board but some boards require a fan plugged into Fan header #1 (should be the cpu fan) for protection purpose. If you forget to plug in the cpu fan or the fan dies the board will shutdown. Look in your manual and check that out.
