HIS X850XT IceQ II Turbo HIS X850XT IceQ II Turbo: The #2 VPU from ATI is packaged into an offering from HIS. How will it fare against the X850XT-PE?

Far Cry

Another game whose engine is tough, even on latest generation cards is Far Cry. The HIS X850XT and the X850XT-PE both took a hit, although interesting enough the HIS X850XT appeared to slightly outpace its “faster” brethren in this particular game (This is within our error margin though) Also interesting to note, turning on AA / AF caused no effect whatsoever as to FPS hit.

Once again, watching actual game play instead of a demo shows several drops in frame rates, even onto the teens. When all is said and done, both cards only fall short of 60FPS average at 1600x1200, giving you plenty of game at 1280x1024.

This game is not really my cup of tea mind you, but it is a graphically intense game and their is a lot to take in while sneaking about the map. The X850XT once again painted the graphics with little to no stutters and prompt response to my movement requests.

Unreal Tournament 2004

Although not really long in the tooth, you can see the high end cards have caught up with this engine, and they paint it very well. The X850XT does not disappoint on this demanding level, bringing in just over 58 FPS, nearly matching that of the X850XT-PE.

We still see several dips below 30 FPS, which tells me that there is still a need for minor tweaking if you are going to play in the higher resolutions. Those of you that didn't think UT2004 is demanding can see for themselves that this game can take a toll on your graphics card. Turning on 4xAA / 8xAF barely even nudges both cards as you can see, and this is at either 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 resolutions.

I have always enjoyed playing around in UT2K4, but rarely have I been able to play with AA / AF on. Once again, movement to mouse precision is important and drastic improvement is noticed over the midrange cards.

Even though I did not benchmark it, I enjoy playing PK. Playing it using the HIS X850XT was jaw dropping. I know PK is a great engine, but I had no idea it could look this good. Game flow was precise and the motion tightly followed my mouse movement, giving the game a fresh feel making me want to play more.
