i5 and 'new' i7 discussion
I rather like what I've seen (read) so far. And looking around at prices it's nice to see that you can build a high performing system for less. I do NOT like the stupid naming scheme of the new i7's tho. I get why they did it, since the performance is in line with the 'old' i7, but it's just going to get confusing. Seriously, would it have hurt to use i6?
I am however toying with the idea of splashing out on an i5 750. I paid little more for my E6420 and at the time it was on special. I'm going to wait a little while tho as I need to wait for watercooling blocks/mounts to catch up. But I certainly see an i5 on my shopping list sometime soon.

It may not be as important now as PCI-e 3 specification will not be released until 2011 instead of next year but with the PCI-e controller actually included in the CPU it will mean that anybody wanting to get PCI-e 3 goodness will have to change their CPU as well as graphics card & motherboard. I can see some people being a little upset.
Just as well they delayed it otherwise there might have been angry mobs storming Castle Intel next year over their obsolete purchases. ![]() |
