K7NCR18D-Pro review:multiplier - overclocking?

I have a Leadtek K7NCR18D-Pro and there IS a multiplier adjustment in BIOS!
My XP is 2000@2100 using only the multiplier to overclock.
I have seen many reviews, including on viperlair, but all said there is none. Is this because of the old BIOS or what?!

I have actually been talking to another reader who had a similar statement. It seems one of two things is different with my motherboard. Either I have a old non-Pro version as the sticker that says that K7NCR18D-Pro, can be removed to say K7NCR18D. Or/as well I believe I have an old revision of the motherboard. If you want to let me know the revision number of your motherboard then we'll see if that is true. My revision number is:

LR5930 PCB Rev 08
Assy Rev E

This is located just between the SPP and the memory slots.

Maybe. I guess only the reviewer can say for sure.

Okay after reading a little more on the Leadtek website I believe that I have the answer to this problem. I'll quote directly from their FAQ's:

quote:
Q: How can I adjust the CPU's ratio on the WinFastK7nCR18D/G-(Pro)?
A: With the product positioning for the K7NCR18XXX series, there are two types of product issues for users; the color box with red supports the function of CPU ratio adjustment, and the other color box with purple color doesn't support that function. For the CPU ratio setting, please go to "XBIOS II" under the BIOS setup menu, selecting the setting based on the product type you purchased.

It seems that the board I have is indeed one of the purple boxed ones, so no overclocking adjustments for me. Unless Leadtek replaces my motherboard, which they should because the box states on the back that I have an adjustable CPU clock.

Only problem with returning it is that I bought it in May so its been quite a while. The company I bought it from wouldn't take it back now unless it doesn't work. I'm trying to get an e-mail address for someone at Leadtek but so far haven't found any.

Thank you for the replies.
I was a little upset at first because I thought sombody had something against this motherboard. It performs very well for me (I upgraded form Gigabyte KT133 so it was a giant step in both performance and stability!).
For dsp: I bought it in June, and I’ll look for the revision number of my motherboard.

Anything going from a Gigabyte is an upgrade.

Just out of curiosity, over this side of the pond, for us j00ropeans Leadtek is a pretty big and well known company, is it the same for you amerkhans? Because Leadtek are not a company I see in reviews that often.

Not here that I know of Scott, the computer store I bought it from only had the one board, and even that as a special

Actually, a lot of review sites are reviewing what they think are PRO boards, which are actually re-badged non-pro boards, or regular non-pro boards. Check out the pictures that they throw up. Some of them include a picture of the same board as David's, but with no sticker on it, there's no "...pro" on the white stenciling on the board.

As I said on the [H]F's, my only conclusion is that Leadtek is selling non-pro boards and trying to pass them off as Pro editions. I hope this isn't the case.

(EDIT: P.S., I'm the reader that pointed this out to David, that he refers to.)

Actually saying that they are rebaged non-Pro boards isn't totally accurate either. If you look at the spec sheets of the K7NCR18D () then you will see that it also has the ability to change the multiplier of the CPU, as well as it only has the MCP not the MCP-T.

What my working hypothesis is, is that the motherboard I have is an earlier board revision (IE one of the first Leadtek used) for this motherboard, which was used on both the Pro and non-Pro boards. When they did a revision they added the multiplier adjustments to the motherboard. That's just my theory, based on the facts I have right now.

Leadtek isn't that big where I am. I can find ABIT, ASUS, and MSI very easily here. Gigabyte is prolly next, though more rare. Same as Soyo. Leadtek, Chaintech, FIC I can only find online.
