Dude, if your diggin it for the ti4200, dont get the 8X, not worth the extra bucks, no change in any clock speeds, whereas the GF4 MX440 8X has a quite large significant increase in performance ( - toms VGA cards), becuase of higher core clock speeds and higher memory speeds, and the memory bandwidth of of the ti4200 from 4X to 8X is practically unchanged! (from 7.4 GB/sec-8.0 to the 8X 8.0) The MX440 has a definite performance increase in memory bandwidth also from 6.4 to 8.0.
Choice is yours
Im at the standpoint that anything over 10 GB/sec is serious overkill (9700 GFFX) - obvious.

Hm, death to MX??? Im assuming your talking about the Geforce4 MX>? If so, im wandering why many people dont announce the death of the Radeon 9000, ha, i mean hey, they got DX 8.1 pixel and vertex shaders? A real card a? The Geforce4 MX 440 8X beats the Radeon 9000 in ALL performance tests, many in DX 8.1 game testing. Geforce4 MX is alos the best selling card in the world as of today, dead?? I d say its very much alive and hard to beat. A perfect combonation of Geforce2 3D capabilities and Geforce4 TI features (AAA, LMAII, nVIEW) and the cheapest price points, its hard to beat...
performance tests?

Yep, I have NEVER trusted Tom's Hardware... after their fishy stuff in the past, I just can't stand em. Also their site is annoyingly difficult to navigate (at least it was the last time I was there... a LONG time ago)

Geforce4mx = geforce2mx with faster clock.
Hey, it'll play some games, I'll give it that, but come on, if you want some good stuff, grab a Radeon or a geforce ti. Hell, grab a geforce3 if you're just repulsed by ATI. Even the old Geforce3 is better than an MX board.

Could you be hones and tell me how much faster is it compared to older nVidia chipsets?
Like how does it compare to a GeForce 2 GTS, or Geforce 3 TI 200... I'm just curious to know because I'm interested in the cost to performance ratio.

I wish I could tell you right now, but I don't have any cards based on those chipsets. If you want I could see what I can do to test the Ti200 cards on it.

I can't stand ATI cards. I had a geforce 2 mx 400 for quite some time. I then upgraded to the ATI Radeon 8500. I had heard about ATI's driver issues but I had also heard they were getting better. Well, they're not! I've gotten to the limit with the radeon and am selling it for at least a GeForce 4 TI 4200. My major problems, and I'd get screenshots if I could but they don't seem to work, are listed in the following examples:
Mafia demo, one of the guys at the table in the beginning video is made up of triangles and basically looks like a black triangle version of cousin it
Black Hawk Down demo has some seriously odd stuff going on, that doesn't happen on my other machine with a GeForce 2 MX
There are others, but my final one that I'll list is that in the Lord Of the Rings PC Game, not the greatest game anyway but still fun, Gandalf does not have a head or hands in the intro video!
All of these things are normal on my GeForce 2 MX card machine, but no with the 8500. So, I don't care how much the price drops on a 9700 when the FX comes out. Nor do I care if the FX blows ass compared to the 9700. I'll still buy the FX because nVidia's drivers are SO much better.
That's my word on the ATI v. nVidia battle anyway.
