PowerLeap PL-P4/N: When the Pentium 4 was released, early adopters were stung by the form factor change. Normally, a new motherboard would be in order, but we look at a cheaper and easier alternative.

Performance vs the SiS651

Now that we have established the obvious, let's look at the performance when compared against a modern motherboard platform...

The PowerLeap PL-P4/N scores do lag behind the SiS651 scores. I was actually a bit surprised to see the SiS651 come out ahead since it's running on DDR (I used PC2100 for the testing). Let's see how it does in the MMX tests...

The SiS651 does pull into the lead once again with its MMX performance. The i850 does show new life though with the PowerLeap upgrade, and its MMX performance is quite good considering it isn't the "hot" chipset of the moment.

Since we're on the topic of synthetic benchmarks, let's do the PC Mark test...

PL-P4/N 2.6 (left), SiS651 2.6 (right)

The PL-P4/N 2.6 upgrade scores a little better in the CPU benchmarks, though despite being equipped with RDRAM, falls behind the SiS DDR setup.
