ASUS P5AD2 Premium Wireless Edition ASUS P5AD2 Premium Wireless Edition: If you're looking for a complete package, the latest board from ASUS may be it.

Price: $264 USD

PiFast

A good indicator of CPU/Motherboard performance is PiFast version 4.2, by Xavier Gourdon. We used a computation of 10000000 digits of Pi, Chudnovsky method, 1024 K FFT, and no disk memory. Note that lower scores are better, and times are in seconds.

Intel D925XCV
47.03

PiFast hits both the CPU and memory pretty hard with this test, and the ASUS board is just over one second faster in this test. Use larger numbers, and this gap will widen.

CDex Audio Conversion Wav to MP3

CDex was used to convert a 414MB Wav file to a 320kbs MP3.

As with the PiFast benchmark, the ASUS P5AD2 Premium leads the Intel D925XCV again. This time, there is a wider gap in performance, with a difference of two seconds in the P5AD2's favour.

TMPGEnc 2.521

We used an Animatrix file, titled The Second Renaissance Part 1, and a WAV created from VirtualDub. The movie was then converted it into a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file with a bitrate of 5000. Times are in minutes:seconds, and lower is better.

Intel D925XCV

Both boards converted the AVI file faster than we've ever seen here at VL, though keep in mind that the Pentium 4 560 is the highest clocked CPU we've used as well. Although the Intel board has a great showing, the ASUS board is a good five seconds faster.

From DirectX to OpenGL, the ASUS P5AD2 Premium is very strong in all the tests, besting the Intel board in all the benchmarks.
