SiSoft Sandra

SiSoft Sandra is an extremely popular synthetic benchmark The CPU, MMX and Memory benchmarks were run on the two EPIA boards.

CPU Arithmetic

CPU Multimedia

Memory

As you can see in all three of the tests the EPIA MII 12000 beats the older model. The CPU Multimedia benchmark showed the largest gain, but all tests show the EPIA MII 12000 superior.

PiFast

PiFast is an excellent benchmark of system performance, especially in the CPU area. We used version 4.2 of the program by Xavier Gourdon. A computation of 10000000 digits of Pi, Chudnovsky method, 1024 K FFT, and no disk memory was used for testing. Note that results are in seconds and lower is better.

As you can see, once again the EPIA MII 12000 is the leader, beating its predecessor by over 150 seconds.

VirtualDub Audio Extraction

The audio of was ripped to a wav at 44 100Hz, no compression using VirtualDub 1.5.8. The results are in seconds, and lower is better.

This benchmark is probably the closet of all of them, bringing the difference down to only 1 second. The EPIA MII 12000 is still the winner.

TMPGEnc 2.521

The Animatrix file linked to above was used once more, this time it was converted into a MPEG-2 file with a bit rate of 5000. The wav file ripped from the previous benchmark was used for the sound in the clip. Times are in minutes, with lower being better.

The EPIA MII 1200 once again shows that it is a much better board all around, almost doubling the performance in this test.

Unreal Tournament 2003 CPU Test @ 640x480

Unreal Tournament is the only 3D benchmark that we will be using in this review; tests were run using the [H]ard OCP benchmarking tool. Results are in frames per second, with higher being better.

As you can see the newer EPIA MII 12000 smoked the M9000. These boards have always been really slow in 3D games, and it is nice to see such an improvement. Now you should note that 15fps (although a huge improvement over the previous board) is still extremely low, and unplayable. So don't expect to be using the VIA EPIA as your next LAN gamer just yet.
