Aida 32 Memory Tests

Read
Write
533MHz
5139
2040
600MHz
6224
2412
662MHz
6618
2843

As in SiSoft Sandra, we're seeing the same memory performance scaling in Aida 32.

PiFast

Time in Seconds
533MHz
45.95
600MHz
44.83
662MHz
44.02

In our first real-world test, the memory bandwidth has a lesser effect than in the synthetic tests. Nonetheless, we can see about 1 second shaved off at each ~66MHz bump in speed.

Quake 3

Framerates
533MHz
428.6
600MHz
433.2
662MHz
439.2

Again, not huge boosts in framerates between each clock jump, but if the bandwidth is available, Quake 3 will use it.

Final Words

As the old saying goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. With Intel moving further away from DDR-1, it's looking like familiar names like Corsair is still going to be with us in providing quality ram. While we're still not seeing revolutionary jumps in performance over DDR-1, as the LGA775 platform evolves, the performance gap will most definitely grow wider as DDR-2 scales upwards.

Based on our tests today, there are tangible jumps in performance as DDR-2 gets faster. While not all motherboards offer DDR-2 600 as an option, the Corsair TWIN2X1024-5400C4PRO will be ready for boards that do support these speeds... and more. As with past Corsair modules we've reviewed, the ram performed flawlessly, and even at speeds out of Intel's specs, the ram passed all our RST Pro2's tests.

Build quality is excellent, and the flashing LEDs are nice eyecandy if this is what you're into. If you wish to save a few bucks, opt for the non-Pro version of the TWIN2X, as the modules we've reviewed today are a tad bit on the expensive side. The only potential problem we can see with the Pro Series of ram is there may be some clearance issues with Small Form Factor PCs, but that seems unlikely as this did not occur with their DDR-1 modules.

Pros: Great performance, good overclocker with current boards, and likely beyond. Stable.

Cons: Expensive.

Bottom Line: Corsair has earned a reputation as makers of fast and reliable ram, and this tradition continues from past ram formats and into DDR-2. While not earth shattering, performance-wise today, DDR-2 is forward thinking as Intel scales their clock speeds, and the TWIN2X Pro Series is up to the task.
