Albatron FX5900 XT Albatron FX5900 XT: Good video cards are everywhere, which one should choose? Viperlair takes a look at an Albatron option for under $200(US).

Albatron has been known in other countries for sometime and only recently have they started producing enthusiast products in the US. They are seemingly known as a budget option, which really packs a lot of firepower for the price.

The 5900FX is the budget 5900 that nVidia decided to produce to better combat against the ATI 9600XT in which the 5700U was too inept at doing. Priced at the same price point, for a midrange card, how well will it compete against the 9600XT?

Packaging:
The packaging for the Albatron 5900FX is very slim as you see here.

Pretty much standard fare as with other FX5600 cards. There are a few cosmetic differences worth noting, which we'll cover later on in the review.

Hopefully whatever they saved in packaging, they passed along to the customer. Although I don't really think any extra packaging is necessary, as it did arrive to my house completely unharmed.

Inside it comes with a driver disk, Duke Nukem Manhattan project, a demo disk, Power DVD, Power Director, the VIVO dongle, a DVi to analog converter, a RCA video cable, and DSUB cables. The vivo is a definite plus, I only wish this card was dual DVi and included 2 DVi to analog adapters, that would make the card (as far as ports are concerned) perfect. I think that the bundle was pretty lacking, and most would probably not find the software useful.

The Albatron 5900FX is certainly a nice shade of blue. It also has a ram sinks surrounding the GPU cooler that are gold in color. This particular FX card has 128mb of ram, although the specifications also allow for a 256mb version as well.

The card features one analog and one DVi output connector, as well as a vivo port that connects to a dongle. Attaching this card to a tv couldn't be easier if you ever wanted an HTPC system, or just occasionally just to use your computer on your TV.
