I agree with Lotek. If you want a lapptop but are thinking netbook due to price, see if you can get a laptop in your budget range.
If on the other hand you're looking for a netbook because of the small size etc... I go almost everywhere with my Acer A150 (upgraded to 1.5gb ram :p) and love it to bits; it's with me almost as often as my cell phone. I've got Win 7 RC running on it, and it runs just as well (for day to day things like surfing, email etc) as my watercooled desktop. Just make sure you get one with an Atom CPU; any is fine as the 'faster' ones really are no different (at the moment) than the 'slower' ones. Infact, my netbook runs just as well as my wifes laptop, although her laptop is a good 2 years old now, 2.0GHz dual core iirc. I use mine to surf the web when I'm out and about and waiting for something/anything, email, watch movies, sat nav (tie it into my phone via bluetooth and pass the N95's GPS signal to it) if I'm trying to fix someone's PC and need Google's help, IRC while I'm playing a game (secondary screen), if I want to spend time with the wife while she watches TV without actually spending time with the wife ... the uses are endless, as is a laptop, just that a netbook is more portable. As for which netbook? Well, exclude any that don't have an Atom CPU. After that, decide on screen size, battery (battery life) and then other features and price them up, as they are all of a muchness when it comes to quality. In the case of the 9" Advent and Medion Netbooks, they are infact rebadged MSI Winds. The 9" Asus EeePC's arguably have the best battery and features. The 9" Acer's arguably have the best keyboards but a touchpad with the buttons to either side which many don't like. The 10" ones ... the EeePC's keyboard is much improved, the Acer's are just as good and often come with a better battery than their 9" siblings, the Samsung NC10 is getting rave reviews for quality and value. Larger than 10" ... that's not a netbook, it's a small laptop and defeats the point of a netbook imo! ![]()
