All this talk of WU value is of... little value. Work units are assigned according to the speed of your computer and what work they have queued for completion. These vary in value according to how long they will take to complete. In theory, one 20-point work unit will take twice as long to complete as a 10-point work unit on a given computer. Now assuming all this is true (I can’t say for sure that I’ve got it right), the only measure of relevance is points per given time period say, per day or week and that would be a product of speed of processor(s) and running time.

that's rough bro. any part time folders? i get five from the dev team and my own machine at home. there's a software audit coming up at work too so i may have to do a quick bit of .exe renaming.

btw, does anyone else remember the days when we thought we'd be lucky to break into the top 100? 84th on the quick stats page!

Hmmm .. the biggest decision I'm worrying about now is whether telling TK I will or I won't post a pic of me in a miniskirt if he does/doesn't keep up crunching will discourage him or encourage him - decisions decisions...

<And I don't mean what colour to wear by that comment either>

Tang ran into some issues with his dual XP setup and I know he moved to watercooling as well, might not have rebuilt the folding aspect when he rebuilt his system. Ghostwheel I have not seen in ages, either here, irc or quake, so I am not sure as to his whereabouts.

Keep up the folding tho, there are fewer and fewer of us unfortunately, even datee seems to have stopped :(

baddad, this is mainly an amd thing, as that uses 3dnow by default instead of sse, which I think p4's use anyway, but yeah, my large 2 day folds have been reduced to 1 day. Check our log file for what optimisations you use, if it doesnt say any type of optimisations you could try the tag. But you do have to upgrade to client v4.0 to use it.
Edit: BTW no problems upgrading, I even did it in the middle of a wu (not while it was running though ) Did a backup of the WU folder but didnt need iit, strated it up and it continued where the 3.24 client left off.

On a different topic....

Used stats page for the first time this week, and it was quite a disappointing experience. Not the site, thats damn good, but it keeps track of members who havent posted a WU in the last 7 days by greying them out, and there was a hell of a lot of grey.
VL has about 1300 members, 85 have joined the fold, only about 22 are actively folding :(
Maybe VL should do something to get or keep folders (OK it's not a priority for the site, and being part of a community doing something worthwhile is enough for me, but dont we all want to get VL higher up?) Theres no point on spending heaps of cash to build a folding farm or on power bills, but if only half the members ran 1 PC there would be a big improvement.
It would be great if we could get sponsors to give away some prizes to anyone who puts out a certain amount of points per week or similar, but thats not going to happen. How about something like a custom title or avatar, saying something like 20,000 point club member, or 500 points per week?
OK, this could be lame and a useless rant, but I've seen casual readers to forums notice f@h all over sigs, avatars and titles and ask what they means and get involved themselves. With the f@h being in its own (dead) forum most people wouldnt notice it or go into it as they dont know what it means.

To give you an idea of my involvement with this - I've got in running 24/7 on 3 pc's at home. When I did a reinstall of 2k yesterday - I had my folding restored within 6 hours. But it mainly comes down to what people are willing to commit. Everybody agrees in principle that it's a good idea/cause, but once guys get the magic "5" to enter contests - they seem to quit.

Personally - I have mixed feelings about prizes for folders - because 1 guy running it 24/7 @ 100% on his 850 deserves it a lot more than somebody running it for a week on his 3.06 just to enter a contest - but how do you gauge someone's commitment? I have an unfair advantage because I use the machines in the house <and no one else does>. I like the idea of having custom titles though because it's a prestige thing and a reward that you can only get by staying an ACTIVE member of the team. Heck make up titles and indicate whether someone is active or not. Make it either by points or WU's.

My $0.02

I think the title thing is a good idea. It wil actually show who is folding and who isnt. Either that or slowly start upping the amount of work units required per contest. Possibly having a double scale, newbies only need five, but people who have been here x amount of time need x amoutn of work units completed. As for my commitment to the team i have only been adding systems. I currently have my main rig (read the sig), my xbox (running linux and folding almost 24/7), a 1700+, a P3 733, a p2 233 all running 24/7. I also have a 600 celeron running on and off, and my work computer which is a P3 766. I still have plans of adding more. We were doing so well for so long but people just seem to have forgotten. Whatever we do we need to figure out how to get more people folding, cause we have dropped atleast 10 places on the team stats, who much more do we have to drop?

heres something interesting... i wonder if it has been talked about in the past 40 or so pages but:

when folding is on: my system health is something like this: 24C ambient, 44C core
then, when its off; it drops like 14C to: 20C ambient, 30C core

so basically it drops 25F degrees.... jesus those damn stanford peeps know how to suck and use cpu cycles

Well I had to quit for a while, while doing the DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B review, or I don't think my results would have been acurate. I'll probably have to stop some time in the future too, but I'll always come back.

I'm number 15 on our teams folding list, so you can't really complain at me anyway.
