2600xt vs. 8600GTS

who do you think will come out on top? what's the latest word on the 2600's release date?

Difficult question. Usually you can make an educated guess according to other cards released in the series, but in this case, the Midrange AMD cards run on a newer 65nm GPU which should help a lot. The 8600 GTS is a pretty damn good card though, the only thing that lets it down is the price which is too close to the 8800 GTS 320MB to make it worth buying the 8600GTS.

I'm going to say performance will be close, but the 8600GTS will edge out if only for it's more mature drivers, and both will lose out in price to the 8800 GTS 320MB.

I think it'll be best to wait until final hardware is released before comparing. I would guess it'll be comparable though.
