Abit KR7A - RAID

Performance

Ok, less talk, more action. Benchmarks! The usual Hit Squad of software was used for this purpose, namely SiSoft Sandra, 3dMark2001, and Quake III Arena (1.30). Also a new comer to the scene, PC Mark 2002, a new benchmark system from the makers of 3DMark. The test bed consists of : -

Athlon XP 1900+ (1600 mhz)
Abit KR7A - Raid (makes sense : ) )
Asus GeForce 3 Ti500 (Det's 27.10)
4 x 256 mb of Crucial buffered PC2100
2 x 60gig ATA100 IBM Deskstars
2 x 60gig ATA133 Maxtor DiamondMax (in Raid 0)

Windows XP
Via 4 in 1's v 4.33

SiSoft Sandra

Memory scores here are interesting. Just look at the difference between the KT266 and the KT266a, that's quite a jump on both accounts, and an impressive score on both accounts. CPU scores are equally impressive

Drive Benchmarks

The ATA133 drives were set up in a raid array for the extra speed they would provide, but alas the scores received on our test rig were very disappointing to say the least. There is a boost above a single ATA100 drive, but that's to be expected as this is a raid array. I was expecting to have at least a marginally better performance above an ATA100 Raid array, but as you can see here that was not the case. I ran the benchmark multiple times to be sure as well as adjusting some settings but each time the scores were similar. ATA133 would appear to not be a significant reason for buying this board.
