Quake 3: Arena

Here's a moldy oldie for you. It'll be another half year until Carmack's next brainchild is released, but since people like to see some ridiculous framerates, here are some Quake 3 numbers. All game settings are at high quality.

No AA, No AF

The AiW 9700 Pro will be more than enough for Quake 3, maintaining over 220fps at all resolutions. Now it's time to improve the image quality.

4xAA, 8xAF

By jacking up the AntiAliasing to 4x and Anisotropic Filtering to 8x, the framerates take a large hit, though at 1024x768, framerates are hardly affected at all.

6xAA, 16xAF

Although my preference is playing games at 1280x768, 6xAA, 16xAF didn't do much to affect my game experience. The average framerates are a lot lower now when compared to no AA, but during gameplay, my framerates never dropped below 90fps. Since I cap my Q3 framerates at 125fps, things were running pretty smooth, and quite nicely I may add.

Jedi Knight II

Jedi Knight II is a little more CPU limited than video card limited (we'll see in a few moments), but make no mistake. A fast video card is required if you still want good framerates at high resolutions and all the effects turned on.

No AA, No AF

4xAA, 8xAF

6xAA, 16xAF

As we can see above, at 1024x768, we get over 96fps regardless of AA and AF turned on. As we increase the resolution, the framerates drop, and only at 6xAA, 16xAF at 1600x1200 do things get noticeable choppy.
