The olden days saw drivers being released every so often but stepping forward into the current times and the likes of AMD, Nvidia and other manufacturers are releasing drivers much more frequently. AMD have been bang on the money every month with fresh, new drivers that claim to bring improved performance and stability to a variety of platforms. Today sees us looking at the newest set of drivers from AMD; Catalyst 11.6. This set of drivers is said to improve performance on certain games, give image stabilization to YouTube as well as other new video features that have been incorporated. Among these, we also find extra bug fixes and improved stability on Windows XP, Vista and 7. This is our first look at a set of drivers and we hope to analyse the performance between its predecessor and the current new release as well as listing what new features and performance enhancements have been brought to the table in more detail.

One of those products is the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 Ultimate Edition. The 6670 Ultimate includes two special features that differ from a traditional 6670. Those being the “Ultimate” passive cooling, and a key to Dirt 3. Under the hood the 6670 Ultimate is no different from a stock version. The core clock speed is set at 800MHz while the memory speed is set at 1000Mhz. Onboard is 1 GB of DDR5 memory. The 6670 comes with 480 stream processors and a 40 nm chip. The interface includes a single HDMI, Display Port, and Dual-Link DVI input. All of the usual 6000 series features apply such as DX 11, Eyefinity, OpenGL 4.1, UVD3, and AMD App acceleration.
Graphics cards are a big market and AMD are one of the largest. Recently they have been pouring out their new range of 6 series graphics cards ? ranging from the 6450 to the beast of the 6990. So far, we have hardly heard a bad word against them.
