Final Words
The ATI/AMD All-In-Wonder HD is certainly a step in the right direction if you're shopping around for a TV tuner. The product is further unique due to its inclusion of a graphics processor, hence it's able to actually double as a desktop video card if the TV tuner is not in use. Of course, you can still watch and record TV while using the standard video to type a document or surf the net. It's safe to say no discreet video processor can do this feat at this time.
We cannot stress enough how truly impressive high definition is, especially over-the-air HD. Below are a few more captures we've done, using an antenna, of standard and high definition. We won't caption them, as we'll let the images do the talking.
Not obvious enough?
It has gotten to a point for me that I cannot watch any programming in standard definition anymore. CPU usage was a very low 25% most of the time, though it will spike if you need to do much more while watching TV.
If you're starting a HTPC from scratch, we can wholly recommend the All-In-Wonder HD. We will need to point out a few things though. Again, as we mentioned earlier, gaming performance is not very satisfying and we suggest you steer clear if you intend to play the latest games at high resolution. If you already have a video card you are very happy with, the AIW HD is a tough sell if you only need to add TV tuning. Most quality ATSC tuners will run in excess of $75. , though as we've harped on all through this review, the price does include a video card as well.
