AMD 6790
Not only have we got the regular news, but today AMD have released the new 6790, a card that sits in direct competition with NVIDIA’s GTX550. It seems to sit right about where you would expect; between the 5770 and the 6850. It also compares well with the 550. As always, I’ll add to the list below if any more articles appear today on the AMD 6790.
And now back to the regular news …
The OCZ Vertex 3 SSD is based on the second-generation SandForce’s SF-2281 SATA 6Gb/s controller and maintains all of the original core technology introduced in the original SF-1200 series, but now improves SSD
performance with 20% faster IOPS and 40% faster sequential read/write throughput. OCZ promises 60,000 IOPS at up to 550 MB/s transfer speeds with the Vertex 3 SSD, and Benchmark Reviews confirms that they’re keeping this promise with tests of the new storage device on a B3-stepping Sandy Bridge platform against the Crucial RealSSD C400.
ASUS has sent us their version of the Radeon HD 6950 to run through the paces today. The ASUS HD 6950 2GB is factory overclocked right out of the box by 10MHz, which really is not anything to write home about, but it’s there nonetheless. ASUS does include their voltage tweak software to help gain a better overclock, which we aim to attempt as we have in all of our reviews. The ASUS HD 6950 is also fitted with a non-reference, full aluminum cover to help dissipate heat better. The HD 6950 comes with a dual BIOS option from the factory, allowing users to use a BIOS from another manufacturer if they wanted, or just have an overclocked BIOS and an ASUS stock factory BIOS. But enough with the niceties, let’s get on to the real reason everyone is here – testing!
PC cooling is an issue. Without proper cooling your components will have a reduced life span and possibly overheat causing permanent damage. That said, companies in the cooling market are always looking for ways to improve their current products or come up with a new perspective on cooling. This time we are looking at the Prolimatech Genesis. Prolimatech is known for high-end air cooling heatsinks like the Megahalems, Armageddon and Super Mega. The Genesis is supposedly a hybrid processor and motherboard cooler and in this review we’re going to see whether Prolimatech’s hybrid is any good.
